Simple Machines
Ezra and Zephan have started a new unit in science now that we have finished our Apologia Botany course. What an amazing course that was! We love Apologia science!!! The boys have been looking forward to our new science unit, as we are doing simple machines and using K’nex kits. The first assignment was a well, where they had to see how many turns it took to raise the bucket. First the axle was fat and the ‘wheel’ short, then the axle skinny and the wheel long. They found they did less turns with the fat axle than the skinny one and a longer handle takes less effort to turn than a shorter one. They each built their own, then switched to compare the differences.

Those experiments look like so much fun! Are you following a particular curriculum for this? I would love to file this idea away for when we need it!
